Golfers urged to visit Portugal

People with a penchant for golfing holidays have been urged to visit Portugal to experience what the country's numerous courses and resorts have to offer.
The Association of Independent Tour Operators described the Iberian country as 'one of the world's best year-round destinations for golfing holidays'.
A spokesman for the association said that the main factors that make Portugal such an attractive location for golfers are its climate and the number of courses it offers.
'A particular favourite, the Algarve, has one of the densest concentrations of high-quality golf courses in Europe,' he said.
'The area has developed an infrastructure to cater specifically for golfing enthusiasts – from dedicated staff handling golfing queries at hotels to shuttle bus services taking guests to courses.'
People looking for a more 'off-the-beaten-track' golfing break were advised to try areas such as Estorial and Sintra.
Portugal boasts nearly 70 high-quality golf courses and in 2007 the country won the International Association of Golf Tour Operators award.
