Pregnant women 'unsure about travel insurance'

A large number of pregnant women planning holidays are unsure of whether they will be fully covered by travel insurance, according to research.
Four out of five pregnant women plan to take so-called 'babymoons' with their partner to celebrate being future parents, according to research, but many are reportedly concerned that their condition could invalidate their travel insurance.
Stuart Bensusan, sales director at insurance company Essential Travel, said that his company receives around 60 calls a day from women asking if pregnancy is classed as 'a pre-existing medical condition'.
Mr Bensusan said that this is not the case and pregnant women should ordinarily be covered by a regular insurance package.
'With a few exceptions, 99% of pregnant women are perfectly fine and will be covered by a standard travel insurance policy,' he said.
'Expectant mums can relax and make the most of a much-needed break before the big day.'
Women who have had problems during their pregnancy or with a previous pregnancy should be aware that this may be classified as a medical condition. All pregnant women should ensure they are back from their holiday within eight weeks of their due delivery date.
