11 Sep 2008

Leeds-Bradford international airport has announced that it is one of the gateways that has been nominated in the 'best airport for leisure' category of the 2008 British Travel Awards.

The Yorkshire gateway is one of ten airports that will be put forward for the award at a ceremony in London later this year.

Leeds-Bradford has recently implemented a number of developments to its route network that has included its first direct long-haul service to Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.

The airport now provides access to some 74 destinations served by ten airlines and 45 tour operators.

Tony Hallwood, the airport's commercial and aviation development director, said: 'We are thrilled to have been nominated for the award best UK airport for leisure travel 2008.

'We are indeed proud to be recognised as delivering our widest ever choice of services to Yorkshire and everyone at the airport will eagerly await the judge's decision in early November.'

Leeds-Bradford airport hosts flights from major airlines including KLM, bmi and Flybe to destinations such as Barcelona, Prague, Sharm el Sheikh, Amsterdam and Paris.
