Birmingham airport has released its passenger figures for August, showing that it experienced the busiest month since operations began in 1939.
The airport handled a total of 1,079,970 passengers last month, a customer base that comprised 741,445 scheduled passengers and 338,525 charter travellers.
These record-breaking figures follow the airport's busiest every July and put the gateway on track to achieve its most successful year to date in passenger terms.
Joe Kelly, acting managing director of Birmingham airport, said: 'The records continue to be broken here at the airport, following in the path of February, March, April, May and July, which were all record-breaking months.
'For us to be able to celebrate our busiest ever month is a great achievement and something that we are all very proud of.'
A number of route launches are set to boost Birmingham airport's figures over the coming months, including the commencement of a new
Turkish Airlines service to Istanbul in December.
