Eurostar to offer limited timetable this week

15 Sep 2008

Eurostar has announced that it will operate a limited passenger service through the Channel Tunnel this week following the fire that occurred in the north tunnel on 12 September.

The train operator said that there would be a 'very restricted timetable' between 14 and 21 September, with very few services and intervals of several hours between trains.

While customers were advised to avoid all but essential travel, those that are still planning to use the Eurostar were advised to check in as normal to be boarded as soon as possible.

Passengers are likely to have to wait longer than normal before boarding and will experience longer journey times.

Travellers with non-essential journeys before 21 September can get a refund for their trips or rebook for a later date.

The disruption to the Eurostar services is likely to lead to more people searching for cross-Channel flights and airlines making extra services available.

Bmi announced on 12 September that it would add extra capacity to its route between London Heathrow and Brussels and also make more seats available to the Belgian city from Leeds-Bradford airport.
