Good tea is Brits' favourite home comfort

16 Sep 2008

Britain may be a nation of enthusiastic travellers, but Brits still miss their home comforts while they are abroad, particularly a good cup of tea, according to a new survey.

A poll of more than 500 people by Holiday Extras, a company that sells travel add-ons such as insurance and airport lounges, found that a substantial majority (66%) of travellers miss British tea when they are abroad.

Food and drink appear to be the most important home comforts for British people, with HP sauce, Hobnob biscuits, baked beans and Marmite also on the list of things holidaymakers miss while they are abroad.

Mike Whiting, managing editor at Holiday Extras, said: 'I think that our survey shows the British public's love of its traditional favourites is as strong as ever, they're simply the best.

'You simply cannot beat a nice cup of tea and a biscuit.'

Holiday Extras recently carried out a survey on how much Brits spend on their holidays, with 35% of people saying they fork out between £500 and £1,000 on every trip.

Between £200 and £500 per person was the next most common amount, with 32% of respondents saying they spend this much.
