Singapore 'becoming Asia's top entertainment spot'
16 Sep 2008
The Singapore Tourism Board has referred to a number of upcoming events and future attractions as evidence of the fact that the city state is becoming the entertainment capital of Asia.
One of the most high-profile events in Singapore's near future will be the Formula One Grand Prix on 28 September, which will be the first race in the sport's history to be held at night.
The event will be supported by the Singapore GP Season, which will run from 20 September to 5 October and will include the Singapore River Festival and the Singapore Biennale 2008.
Occasions that travellers in Singapore will be able to look forward to next year include the opening of the Marina Bay Sands resort, which will boast facilities including Singapore's first casino and the ArtScience Museum.
Attractions already on offer range from the Singapore Flyer, the world's largest observation wheel, to the VivoCity shopping mall at the harbour front.
Divya Panickar of the Singapore Tourism Board said: 'Singapore has changed greatly over the past few years and people are constantly overwhelmed with its diversity and variety.
'It is no longer perceived as just a stopover destination and with the wealth of new entertainment facilities and attractions and major world events, is fast becoming the place to visit in Asia for a fun packed and varied holiday, complete with a unique Singaporean twist.'
