New developments in San Francisco

19 Sep 2008

The San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau has published its 'what's new' guide for autumn 2008, providing travellers with plenty of information and inspiration.

Among the highlights of the forthcoming events and attractions is the opening of the California Academy of Sciences on 27 September.

Based in Golden Gate Park, this establishment combines an aquarium, a planetarium, a natural history museum, education facilities and a number of other features all under one roof.

Another debut this month will be that of the 74X-CultureBus, which will get underway on 20 September and drive a route from downtown San Francisco to Golden Gate Park, stopping at a number of cultural institutions along the way.

Holidaymakers in the west coast city around 18 October will be able to join in with the celebrations of the 75th anniversary of Coit Tower, an art-deco monument situated atop Telegraph Hill.

One of the busiest periods for San Francisco over the coming months will be the festive season and between mid-November and January the city will illuminate its 'path of gold' light poles.

The lighting ceremony will be held in front of the Westfield San Francisco Centre on 18 November.
