Singapore Airlines to launch second A380 to London

19 Sep 2008

Singapore Airlines has received its sixth Airbus A380, enabling it to launch a second daily flight between Singapore and London Heathrow.

The carrier received its sixth superjumbo from Airbus on 18 September following a flight from the manufacturer's delivery centre in Toulouse, France.

Singapore Airlines has another 13 A380s on firm order, with options on a further six.

London will begin to see two daily A380 flights from Singapore from 20 September, making this route the first in the world to be operated on a twice-daily basis by the superjumbo.

Singapore Airlines became the first carrier to begin using the Airbus A380 in October 2007 and since then has progressively introduced the aircraft to its international network.

The cities other than London that are served by the superjumbo are Sydney and Tokyo.

Earlier this month, the carrier announced that it was reducing fuel surcharges on short- and medium-haul flights following an easing of jet fuel prices.
