Asian 'triangle' to promote tourism
22 Sep 2008
Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos are to promote themselves as a cooperative 'triangle' to help develop tourism.
The countries' respective governments have come to an agreement that a collaborative tourism programme would help economic and social development, the Vietnam News Agency reports.
A meeting was held in Champassak, Laos on 22 September to finalise the agreement.
One of the officials at the summit, Vietnamese minister of planning and investment Vo Hong Phuc, said it was the correct decision for the countries to opt to work together on promoting tourism.
Improvements to the procedures allowing the cross-border movement of people between the three countries could be among the effects of the cooperation, potentially making life easier for backpackers and adventure travellers.
Flights to the south-east Asian countries are available with major carriers including Thai Airways, Korean Air and Cathay Pacific.
