VisitScotland has urged tourists to pay a visit to Edinburgh over Christmas, describing the city as 'a sight to behold' during the festive season.
Gillian Thomson, a spokesperson for VisitScotland's 'winter white' campaign, said that the capital is illuminated over Christmas by the winter wonderland initiative.
She added: 'Edinburgh has so much to offer all through the year but through the festive period it really provides both a unique view of Scotland and an opportunity to see one of Europe's most beautiful cities at its very best.'
One of the highlights of a Christmas visit to Edinburgh is a visit to Princes Street Gardens, which offers a range of markets, including a German fair selling traditional food, wine and gifts.
The Scottish capital's Christmas attractions will be officially opened on 27 November, an occasion known as Edinburgh's Christmas Light Night.
A skating show on an outdoor ice rink will get the evening underway before the lights are switched on around Princes Street and on the city's giant Norwegian Christmas tree.
