'Good ski season' on way in France
26 Sep 2008
The French Government Tourist Office has announced that it is expecting another good ski season over the forthcoming winter period.
Maison de la France reported that some tour operators are already seeing good early ski holiday sales.
A number of developments have taken place at some of the country's top resorts in anticipation of the 2008-09 season, including a new ecological project comprising six chalets with gardens that is set to open in Courchevel.
Brand new hotels will also be opening their doors in Chamonix, Les Arcs, Megeve, Tignes, Val d'Isere and other destinations.
Jean-Pierre Courteau, the tourist office's UK director, said: 'French ski resorts are investing a lot of money to improve their accommodation and to offer skiers a greener environment and these improvements should help France to keep its pole position with British skiers.'
He added: 'There are now more flights from UK regional airports to the Alps and Pyrenees, allowing skiers direct access to the resorts.'
Holidaymakers travelling to the ski resorts in south-eastern France can fly to airports in Lyon, Geneva, Grenoble and other nearby destinations.
