Qatar Airways has announced that it is on schedule to launch daily non-stop flights between Doha and New York JFK on 26 October despite the effects of a Boeing strike on aircraft deliveries.
The Doha-based airline has been assured that the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft that it will use on the New York route will be delivered on time and will not affect the flight schedule.
Once delivered, the plane will be paired with another Boeing 777 and both will be used to fly from Doha to New York JFK.
Akbar Al Baker, chief executive officer of the airline, said: 'Qatar Airways' existing New York operation has proved very successful since its launch in summer 2007 and we look forward to offering our customers an enhanced service to and from one of the world's most important cities by switching the flights from Newark to JFK.'
He added: 'We already serve Washington non-stop from Doha so the additional capacity into New York will give us double daily flights between Qatar and the United States.'
The Boeing strike is set to have an effect on Qatar Airways' third US route, to Houston, which will now launch on 30 March next year.
