Jewish community leaders visit Berlin

16 Oct 2008

A group of 20 Jewish community leaders headed to Berlin this week to learn about the city's connection with the religion.

Organised with the German National Tourist Office in conjunction with Lufthansa and Berlin Tourism, the trip was aimed at teaching the leaders about the past and present Jewish community in the city.

The Jewish Museum, Holocaust Memorial and the Grunewald Memorial were all on the itinerary for the visitors.

The trip was taken as part of a 'Discover Jewish Germany' campaign, which covered topics such as the revival of the Jewish community in Berlin and the remembering of the Holocaust.

Berlin is a fascinating destination for any holidaymaker, offering a unique and difficult history for visitors to discover.

At 800 years old it is one of the younger capitals of Europe, but in the past 100 years alone has seen massive upheaval, from an art-centred hippy hangout in the 1920s to the dark period of the Third Reich in the 40s and the division represented by the Berlin Wall.
