OpenSkies launches from Amsterdam to New York

16 Oct 2008

OpenSkies, British Airways' premium transatlantic subsidiary, has launched its inaugural flight between Amsterdam Schiphol airport and New York JFK.

The service, which got underway on 15 October, is OpenSkies' second route, following the launch of services between Paris Orly and New York JFK in June.

Passengers on the new route will have the choice of two cabins for travel between New York and Amsterdam – one providing fully-flat beds on a business service and another offering 'business class comfort without the business class price'.

Dale Moss, managing director of OpenSkies, said: 'Almost 400 years after Henry Hudson left Europe to cross the Atlantic and set the stage for what would become "New Amsterdam", we are thrilled to launch the newest link between Amsterdam and New York.

'At a time when tough economic circumstances are making travel more difficult on both sides of the Atlantic, we believe OpenSkies presents a compelling value proposition by combining great prices and a premium product.'

OpenSkies sets out to offer a premium travel experience by operating flights with a Boeing 757 with a maximum of only 64 passengers.

The new service between Amsterdam and New York will run six times a week.
