Costa to launch 'Pele cruise'

Costa Cruises has announced that in June next year it will use its flagship to sail the first cruise dedicated to Pele, also known as 'O Rey', or the king of football.

Pele will be joined by some of the top European footballers of the 20th century on the Costa Serena, which will depart from Venice on 28 June and visit Mediterranean destinations including Rhodes and Dubrovnik before returning to Italy a week later.

The trip will boast a number of Brazilian themes in its food, parties, music and activities.

Speaking at the cruise presentation press conference in Madrid, Pele said that the trip will host passengers including presidents of football federations and clubs, who will attend a number of conferences and meetings.

He added: 'The Costa Serena cruise, during which everything will be focused on Brazil, will spread joy throughout the entire eastern Mediterranean, with stops in Italy, Croatia and Greece.'
