Austrian continues Middle East expansion

21 Oct 2008

Austrian Airlines has announced plans to continue its Middle East expansion with the introduction of premium flights to Amman, the capital of Jordan, next year.

From 6 May, the airline will offer four flights a week from Vienna to Amman using an Airbus A320 offering a premium service.

This will be the ninth destination in the region to see premium flights from Austrian Airlines, with services already operating to Dubai, Damascus, Astana, Tehran, Cairo, Erbil, Riyadh and Jeddah.

The airline states that its premium option combines generous amounts of space with culinary delicacies and entertainment provided by a personal video player.

Austrian chief commercial officer Dr Andreas Bierwirth said: 'As part of the highly successful Middle East strategy of the Austrian Airlines Group, we are expanding our route by one more destination by reincorporating the city of Amman into the schedule.'

He added: 'The region continues to be characterised by robust economic growth. Local and international businesses on the one hand, and the tourism sector on the other, value our strong flight connections into the Middle East very highly.'

Austrian's premium service was introduced in July and, according to Dr Bierwirth, has grown in popularity 'enormously' since then.
