Tourism Victoria reveals newest attractions

23 Oct 2008

Tourism Victoria has published its latest What's New – Melbourne and Beyond guide, offering information on the forthcoming events, attractions and tourist products in the Australian state.

Cricket fans will have some interesting entertainment to enjoy when a musical about the life of Australian cricket legend Shane Warne opens at Melbourne's Athenaeum Theatre on 10 December.

A recent development in Victoria was the reopening of the historic Hepburn Bathhouse and Spa in Daylesford, which is thought to be the oldest bathhouse in Australia.

The attraction was recently given a AU$10m (£4.1m) refurbishment that included new relaxation, therapy, massage and private bathing rooms, state-of-the-art amenities and the construction of a building to house three public pools.

Another attraction that visitors to Australia may be interested in is Melbourne's St Kilda Marina, which recently unveiled a billion-to-one scale model of the solar system that stretches 3.7 miles to Sandridge Beach.

The model cost AU$111,000 to make and boasts a 55-stone silicon bronze model of the sun, which cost AU$30,000 to cast, as its centrepiece.

From 19 January to 1 February next year Melbourne will be a point of focus for the sporting world when it hosts the Australian Open tennis tournament.
