VisitScotland and whisky company The Famous Grouse have announced a collaborative initiative inviting people all over the world to host Burns Night celebrations on 25 January 2009.
It is hoped that a record number of people around the world will participate in the Burns Supper Celebration as part of Homecoming Scotland 2009, which will mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns.
Burns Night revellers are invited to register their activities on the Burns Supper 2009 website to help break the record for the number of celebrations held around the world.
Paul Bush OBE, chief operating officer of EventScotland, said: 'We are delighted to launch the world famous Burns Supper Celebration with The Famous Grouse and encourage everyone around the world, whatever they are doing for Burns Night, to join in by registering on the site.
'We hope to hear of a vast array of different celebrations including the largest ever Burns supper and perhaps the highest, such as one held on the top of Mount Aconcagua in Argentina last year.'
Burns Night 2009 will kick off Homecoming Scotland, a year-long programme of festivals, parties, concerts and other events that will lead up to St Andrew's Day on 30 November.
