Europe 'cheaper than US for skiers'
24 Oct 2008
The Post Office has released a new report on the cost of ski holidays, revealing that rising prices in the US are making Europe a better prospect.
Eastern Europe is the best region of all for bargain hunters, according to the study, while the 'big three' of France, Switzerland and Austria are also set to benefit from escalating costs at American resorts.
Romania is reportedly the cheapest ski destination of all, followed by Slovakia, although the latter will be joining the eurozone in January, which could affect resort costs.
Bulgaria was third in the list, followed by Italy, while Finland, Germany and Austria also appeared in the top ten.
Helen Warburton, head of travel at the Post Office, said: 'Although the pound will not stretch as far for UK skiers as in previous years, there is still good value to be had.
'Resort prices in France, Austria, Switzerland and particularly Italy look good value when compared with the US, while the emerging ski resorts outside the eurozone especially Romania and Slovakia will be excellent choices for beginners and for families on a tight budget.'
For adventurous skiers, the Post Office suggested the option of Argentina, which is reportedly half the cost of the US for ski passes and equipment.
