Dubai wins big at World Tourism Awards

29 Oct 2008

Dubai came out on top of the World Tourism Awards Middle East ceremony earlier this week.

The UAE city has become a huge destination for travellers in recent years, looking to shop till they drop, golf, or sunbathe in year round good temperatures.

However, it was the newly opened specially created Palm resort that made the city win big.

Graham E Cooke, founder and president of the World Travel Awards said: 'Not only Dubai but the whole of the Middle East region is a constant signal to everyone in the industry of how bold vision and innovation…can make a difference.

'The region is a supreme example of how to hold your nerve and act short term when necessary, but always with longer-term benefits and a sound business strategy uppermost.'

Despite Dubai winning the majority of the awards, other destinations such as Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain also did well at the awards.

Some big names attended this year's event, including current Miss World, Zi Lin Zhang of China and Emmy Award winning actress, Jennifer Finnigan.
