A travel writer has sung the praises of a whale watching break in South Africa.
Tania Cagnoni, writing for the Telegraph, said that despite choppy waters and dubious weather, it was an 'incredible' experience.
With the likes of an on-board botanist to help explain what is being seen and helpful crew describing where to look, it is a unique experience.
Ms Cagnoni said: 'After a two and a half hour trip we'd seen three whales, the sun was beaming and we headed back to land via a penguin colony.
'Few can boast of being within 50 metres of a 50 tonne whale in it's natural habitat; it beats a theme park any day.'
The best places to whale-spot in South Africa is on the Walker Bay coast where the calve during July to November, the country's wintery season.
For those whose sea-legs are less up for the task, there is always the option of watching from viewing points on land, but getting up close and personal is the best way of experiencing the world's biggest mammals.
