The merger between
Delta Air Lines and
Northwest Airlines has been officially completed.
Nearly all of the world's travel markets will be served by the new airline, named
Delta, with services to 375 cities worldwide.
Delta CEO Richard Anderson said: 'The airline industry faces a very difficult economic environment around the world and this merger gives
Delta increased flexibility to adapt to the economic changes ahead.
'With much of the work to bring our airlines together well under way the new
Delta will be at the front of the pack in achieving the benefits of consolidation and is well positioned to navigate the tough waters ahead.'
The new airline will be based in Atlanta and it is hoped that all of the customer benefits with the previous separated airlines will continue to be in use.
Flights from
Delta go from nearly every major airport in the UK and to destinations as varied as Mumbai, New York, Singapore and Paris.
