One year anniversary of A380 celebrated

31 Oct 2008

Singapore Airlines has celebrated the one year anniversary of its use of the Airbus A380.

The first flight for the A380 took place on 25 October 2007 from Singapore to Sydney, and raised over £700,000 for charity.

Since the initial flight the A380 flies from Singapore to London twice daily, as well as Sydney and Tokyo.

It has since announced it has ordered 13 more A380s and will possibly order a further six on top of that.

The A380 is the world's largest passenger aircraft, featuring two decks and four engines and has widely become known as a "superjumbo".

Nearly 700,000 people have used one of the planes since they have begun commercial use, and 1,600 flights have been clocked up worldwide by Singapore Airlines, Emirates and Quantas, currently the only three carriers to use the plane.

As of July this year, a total order number of 198 had been clocked up by the plane's constructors.
