New Carnival ship makes debut

14 Nov 2008

Carnival Cruise Lines unveiled the newest addition to its fleet today (14 November) – the Carnival Splendor, which docked at Fort Lauderdale.

The vessel, which arrived following a 16-day transatlantic crossing from Europe, is the company's largest 'fun ship' and will be used on a schedule of Caribbean cruises over the coming months.

It will begin its Fort Lauderdale-based programme with three one-time voyages this month – a two-day cruise to Nassau, a four-day trip to the Bahamas and Turks & Caicos Islands, and an eight-day eastern Caribbean voyage.

On 29 November, the Carnival Splendor will embark on a series of ten seven-day Caribbean itineraries that will call at ports including Casa de Campo in the Dominican Republic and San Juan in Puerto Rico.

Introducing the new ship, Carnival president and chief executive Gerry Cahill said: 'Carnival Splendor features an exceptional number of innovative, guest-driven amenities that represent the continuing evolution of the "fun ship" vacation experience.

'We're delighted to bring this spectacular new ship to Port Everglades, a valued business partner that provides a convenient, close-to-home departure point for our guests.'

The new ship's facilities include a two-level health spa, several restaurants and a 5,500-square-foot children's play area.
