20 Nov 2008
A number of leading companies, destinations and experiences were recognised this week at an event celebrating the tourism industry in the Australian state of New South Wales (NSW).
The ceremony saw BridgeClimb, the popular visitor experience in Sydney, pick up the gold award for NSW's major tourist attractions for the third year in a row.
BridgeClimb was also inducted into the NSW Tourism Awards' hall of fame and shared the people's choice award with the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
Other winners on the night included the CountryLink Parkes Elvis Festival of central NSW and Sydney's Lane Cove River tourist park.
Tourism minister Jodi McKay said: 'The NSW Tourism Awards recognise those businesses that have demonstrated outstanding achievement and success.
'The winners have been singled out by their peers as the benchmark for best practice across the state.'
Ms McKay also pointed out that tourism contributes AU$27bn (£11.4bn) to the NSW economy every year.
