The Australian city of Melbourne will soon boast a brand new tourist attraction in the shape of the Southern Star observation wheel.
Scheduled to open on Friday 28 November, the impressive structure is 120 metres tall, making it the largest observation wheel in the southern hemisphere.
Modelled on the London Eye and only 15 metres smaller, the Southern Star is expected to be one of Melbourne's most popular tourist attractions as it offers views of the city's impressive skyline and up to 40km beyond.
At night-time, the wheel itself will provide an impressive sight as it becomes a spectacular light show thanks to a 3.7km LED lighting system that will give constantly changing displays.
The Southern Star is one of the highlights of Melbourne's Waterfront City, a AU$1bn (£423m) development in the Docklands area that offers a range of dining and entertainment options as well as an open-air shopping precinct.
Some 1.5m visitors are expected to use the Southern Star in its first year.
