FCO advises against travel to Mumbai

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has advised against all but essential travel to Mumbai in India following terrorist attacks in the city.
At least seven sites around Mumbai were targeted by gunmen on 26 November and bomb blasts were heard at a number of locations, including luxury hotels.
The terrorists centred their attacks around tourist sites including the Taj Mahal and Oberoi Trident hotels, the Cafe Leopold and the Chhatrapati Shivaji train station.
More than 100 people are thought to have been killed in the violence and 300 injured, with hundreds more currently trapped in hotels and other buildings.
As well as advising against travel to Mumbai, the FCO discourages travel to, or through, the rural areas of Jammu and Kashmir, the region around India's border with Pakistan and the areas of Manipur and Tripura.
More than 734,000 British tourists visit India every year, most of whom travel with no problems.
People planning travel to any part of the country are advised to keep a photocopy of their passport, Indian visa and flight ticket separate from the original versions.
