Ten of the top whisky bars in Edinburgh have teamed up to take part in a joint initiative to promote the experiences they offer to tourists.
The 'whisky bars of Edinburgh' project launches today (1 December) and will see a number of themed events taking place throughout 2009.
Chris Conway of ScotlandWhisky, the country's whisky tourism initiative, said that sampling the beverage in its home country is an important experience to many visitors.
He added: 'Edinburgh is rightly famous for its bars and "whisky bars of Edinburgh" brings together ten fantastic examples of where visitors can enjoy a dram in a traditional setting.
'Each bar has a great reputation for its Scotch whisky range and staff that have passed the Scotch whisky training school.'
Establishments taking part in the initiative include the Albannach on the Royal Mile, Whiski on Edinburgh High Street and Stockbridge Tap on Raeburn Place.
Whisky-themed occasions will be an important part of Homecoming Scotland 2009 a series of celebrations and events to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Robert Burns.
