3 Dec 2008

The Civil Aviation Authority has released figures showing that the punctuality of scheduled flights from UK airports improved in the third quarter of this year compared to the corresponding period in 2007.

Some 70% of scheduled flights operated on time – which is defined as early to 15 minutes late – between July and September 2008, an improvement of 4% on the previous year.

Of the ten airports surveyed, Heathrow and Gatwick were among the most improved in London, with an increase of 6% in punctuality of scheduled services.

Stansted and London City airports both boosted their on-time performance by 5%, contributing to an overall improvement of 5% in punctuality at all of the London hubs monitored.

Edinburgh airport was the stand-out performer, achieving a 10% increase in on-time performance to reach 77% punctuality, while Glasgow airport's figures improved by 6%, climbing to 76%.

Average delays across all of the scheduled flights monitored in the third quarter of the year fell by two minutes to 17 minutes.
