People planning trips to the city of Kyoto in Japan will once again be able to take advantage of a number of deals and events as part of the Winter Special season, which was launched successfully last year.
Running until 31 March 2009, the Winter Special will enable visitors to experience traditional culture and sample local cuisine at affordable prices.
During this period, cultural heritage sites that are not normally accessible for the public will be open to visitors from 10 January to 18 March.
Locations that will be available to visit include the temples of Anrakujuin, Kodai-ji, Kanchiin and others, as well as the To-ji Gojunoto five-storey pagoda and the Fushimi Inari Taisha shrine.
Major events will include the Hatsumode festival in the first week of January and the Baika-Sai outdoor ceremony on 25 February.
A number of restaurants will be offering special menus during the Winter Special season, serving traditional Japanese food as well as Chinese, French and Italian cuisine.
