British Airways (
BA) has announced that it recorded its best global punctuality figures in seven years in November.
Attributing the success to the continuing improvement of Terminal 5, the airline said that almost 87% of short-haul flights across its entire network departed on time last month.
November represented the first month of full capacity operations at the new Heathrow terminal and more than 13m customers have now travelled through the facility.
Some 94% of
BA's flights left Gatwick airport on time in November, which the airline claims is the best punctuality rate on record for any 'significantly sized carrier'.
The number of bags delayed per 1,000
BA customers was reduced to 12 last month, which is a big improvement on the peak of 38 delayed bags that was recorded in summer 2007.
Andy Lord, the airline's operations director, said: 'Our punctuality and baggage performance continues to improve every month and our customers are really noticing the difference.
'Terminal 5, after eight months of use, is already delivering levels of performance well in advance of what was expected and well in advance of other major airports or terminals so early in their life.'
The Civil Aviation Authority recently revealed that punctuality of scheduled flights at ten of the UK's biggest airports saw a year-on-year improvement of 4% in the third quarter of 2008.
