The second phase of the refurbishment of London City airport's departure lounge will begin this month, it has been announced.
Due for completion in spring 2009, the £1.5m project will complete an expansion scheme that began early this year.
The airport said that the redevelopment will provide 'an immediate sense of calm and relaxation', combined with the functionality expected by its core audience of business travellers.
Phase one of the refurbishment was completed in May 2008 and included the introduction of complimentary Wi-Fi access and laptop power points, as well as 250 extra passenger seats and new retail outlets.
London City airport chief executive Richard Gooding said: 'Phase one was completed earlier this year to coincide with the launch of four new aircraft parking stands. That work, at a cost of some £40m, has allowed us to significantly improve our operations on the airfield and introduce a unique rest and work space for passengers in the departure lounge.
'This second phase will confirm London City airport's status as the UK's foremost business travel airport.'
London City claims that it is currently the UK's most successful airport, achieving growth of 23% in 2007, compared to an average of 2% at all other air hubs.
