Birmingham airport has announced that it saw its busiest November on record last month and claimed that it is 'continuing to defy the current economic uncertainty'.
The West Midlands hub handled some 620,283 passengers in November, including 527,727 scheduled travellers and 92,556 customers on charter flights.
Representing an increase of 1.6% on the previous year, these figures are particularly impressive given the current economic conditions, according to Birmingham airport chief executive Paul Kehoe.
'The airport continues to perform above the national average, with figures once again looking likely to be considerably down across the majority of other UK airports,' Mr Kehoe added.
'However, the outlook for the coming months looks challenging for the entire industry and we cannot expect Birmingham to be immune to the economic slowdown.'
Scheduled routes to see growth from Birmingham in November included connections to Alicante, Prague and Dubai, while charter traffic increased on services to destinations in Turkey, Egypt and Mexico.
Birmingham airport will soon see the launch of a brand new route when
Turkish Airlines begins operating five weekly flights to Istanbul.
