15 Dec 2008
Festive holidaymakers who will be celebrating New Year's Eve in the city of Paphos in Cyprus this year may get the chance to see the biggest doner kebab ever created.
Local cooks in Paphos will be attempting to break the world record for the biggest doner kebab as part of the popular holiday destination's New Year's Eve celebrations, reports the Cyprus Mail.
End-of-the-year festivities are being organised in Paphos for the first time in five years and will be based around a new Christmas tree outside the town hall.
Getting underway at 10pm and open to everyone, the celebrations will include free drinks, music and entertainment.
Paphos authorities have invested in a number of new Christmas decorations this year, including lights to illuminate Poseidonos Avenue in Kato Paphos for the first time.
Seasonal resident Ada Maxwell told the Mail: 'I come to Paphos for the winter and this year the seafront looks fabulous. I walked down here last night and I felt really Christmassy. The new promenade is great and is set off beautifully at night by the twinkling lights.'
There will be Christmas decorations and events for holidaymakers to enjoy in a number of other locations around Cyprus, including Nicosia, Limassol and Ayia Napa.
