Travellers invited to cruise to Copenhagen
16 Dec 2008
VisitDenmark has urged holidaymakers to see the variety of sights and experiences on offer during a cruise to Copenhagen.
The Danish capital was recently named Europe's leading cruise destination at the World Travel Awards for the fifth year running.
According to VisitDenmark, one of the city's main advantages is its easy accessibility, with many cruise companies offering Baltic or Scandinavian itineraries from the UK, or a journey time of less than two hours for people who decide to fly.
Cruise passengers will arrive at either Langelinie pier or the Freeport terminal. From Langelinie, there is a regular bus service to the city centre or alternatively a 30- to 40-minute walk.
Travellers who decide to walk will see sights including a bronze statue of the Little Mermaid, a character created by the Danish fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen.
Once they reach the centre of Copenhagen, holidaymakers can head to some of the city's main attractions, such as Amalienborg Palace, the New Opera House and the Nyhavn area.
From Nyhavn, tourists can set off on a 50-minute canal sightseeing tour that will take in the picturesque Christianshavn area, the parliament building and the old stock exchange.
