The 40th International Theatre Festival will be held in Venice next year, giving holidaymakers the chance to sample some culture in one of the world's most sophisticated cities.
This event will be held as part of the Venice Biennale, which will bring a number of art exhibitions, music concerts, theatre shows and more to the Italian city in 2009.
With a history dating back to 1895, the Biennale is one of the world's best known and most respected cultural institutions.
Paolo Baratta, president of the Venice Biennale, and Maurizio Scaparro, director of its theatre section, recently confirmed that the International Theatre Festival will be held from 20 February to 8 March.
The festival will get underway with a ceremony presenting the Greek actress Irene Papas with a Golden Lion award for lifetime achievement.
During the two weeks of the event, holidaymakers will be able to see productions of Othello, Don Giovanni and many other works at venues including the Teatro Piccolo Arsenale and the Teatro Toniolo.
