Enjoy the opera in Prague

29 Dec 2008

Visitors to Prague will be able to treat themselves to some unforgettable entertainment at some of the city's major venues next year.

One of the Czech capital's most popular locations for some evening entertainment is the Prague State Opera.

The opera house is based in a building that was first opened to the public on 5 January 1888 with a production of Wagner's opera The Mastersingers of Nurnberg.

People on holiday in the Czech Republic will be able to see a number of shows at the venue next year, including operas created by Giacomo Puccini, who is widely recognised as one of the greatest composers the genre has ever seen.

Puccini's Tosca will show on dates including 6 and 19 February and 5 March, while Madama Butterfly will be staged on 12 and 20 February.

Visitors whose tastes run more to ballet than opera will be able to see Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake, Prokofiev's Cinderella and other works at the Prague State Opera next year.
