Dubai looks to boost tourism during Shopping Festival

5 Jan 2009

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) has launched a new promotional campaign to boost the number of visitors to the emirate during the 2009 Shopping Festival.

Tourists will benefit from a number of special hotel offers through the initiative, including discounts of between 40% and 60% on room rates and reductions of up to 25% in the price of food and beverages.

Scheduled to get underway on 10 January and run until mid-February, the campaign has been arranged to coincide with the period of the Dubai Shopping Festival.

Khalid Ahmed bin Sulayem, director general of the DTCM, revealed that the promotion would initially be launched in Dubai's major tourist markets, including the United Kingdom, Germany, India, Japan and Australia.

A similar promotional campaign is likely to be implemented in other countries later in the year.

The DTCM recently set up a special focus group to assess the best way to deal with the global economic situation and its impact on tourism. The committee includes representatives from the Atlantis resort, the Jumeirah group and others.
