Japan Airlines, BA extend codeshare agreement

8 Jan 2009

Japan Airlines has reached an agreement with British Airways (BA) to operate more codeshare services in Europe.

The carrier will offer codeshare flights operated by British Airways from London Heathrow to Lisbon as well as four destinations in the UK – Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle.

Reservations for the UK services can be made now, while bookings for the Lisbon flight will become available on 14 January.

The agreement means that Japan Airlines now operates flights connecting to Japan to 31 cities in Europe, including Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Rome and Madrid.

Passengers are expected to benefit from smoother connections from Lisbon and the regional UK cities to Japan via London Heathrow.

Japan Airlines, which is Asia's biggest airline group in terms of sales and its second biggest in passenger terms, has been involved in a codeshare agreement with BA since February 2004.

Both operators are part of the oneworld airline alliance.
