Art lovers taking city breaks in Madrid this year may want to pay a visit to the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza to see an exhibition exploring the use of shadow by artists throughout history.
Simply entitled Shadows, the showcase will open on 10 February and run until 17 May.
The exhibition aims to present a thorough view of the use of shadow in art by presenting work from the Renaissance period right up to the present day.
Two sections will comprise the display, the first of which will feature art that was created from the Renaissance up to the late 19th century, including examples of the impressionist and baroque movements.
The second part of the exhibition, which will be based at the Fundacion Caja Madrid, will concentrate on the 20th century and include surrealist paintings, photography and excerpts of films by FW Murnau, Orson Welles and others.
People planning a summer trip to Madrid will be able to visit the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza from 9 June as it presents an exhibition of art by Henri Matisse.
