New Chopin tour launched in Poland

29 Jan 2009

Classical music lovers may be interested in paying a visit to Poland this year to take part in a tour visiting places associated with the composer and pianist Frederic Chopin.

The tour has been launched by the regional tourist organisation of Mazovia, the area of Poland where Chopin was born and raised, to mark the 200th anniversary of the musician's birth.

Beginning in Warsaw, the tour visits Milanowek, Niepokalanow and other Polish regions before heading to Sochaczew, where Chopin used to perform before he emigrated.

Visitors will also be able to see Zelazowa Wola, the Mazovian village where the composer was born, and Brochow, where he was baptised and his parents were married.

Ewa Bikin, acting director of the Polish tourist office, said: 'At a time when we are celebrating Chopin's 200th birthday, this tour gives visitors to the region a unique insight to his life. It gives people the opportunity to walk in his footsteps in a wonderful part of the country.'

Flights to Warsaw, the capital of Poland, are available with carriers including LOT Polish Airlines, British Airways and KLM.
