Oneworld alliance marks 10th anniversary

3 Feb 2009

The oneworld airline alliance is today (3 February) celebrating ten years since it was first founded.

Members of the group, including British Airways, American Airlines, Qantas and Cathay Pacific, will be marking the anniversary by fitting some of their aircraft with a oneworld livery.

The first British Airways plane with the new design, featuring the oneworld logo on the fuselage in giant bold type, took off on a service bound for Tokyo.

Willie Walsh, chief executive of the airline, said: 'As a founding member of oneworld, British Airways has benefited from ten successful years as part of the world's premier airline alliance.

'Our customers have access to world-class in-flight products, more airport lounges, an unrivalled global network and connections to hundreds more destinations.'

Oneworld will be launching a number of special initiatives to mark its tenth anniversary, including a 10% reduction on all alliance fares for ten weeks and a new fare offering travel through Europe, the Middle East, North America and South America.
