New Singapore tourism initiative launched

13 Feb 2009

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has announced a S$90m (£41m) marketing initiative to encourage travel to the Asian destination this year.

Among the promotions included in the initiative is a '2009 reasons to enjoy Singapore' campaign, which will provide travel packages and special offers for travellers.

In the UK, the marketing drive will promote Singapore as a 'must-see stopover destination' and will be represented in print, online and broadcast media.

Seven other visitor markets will be targeted in the campaign: Indonesia, Malaysia, China, India, Vietnam, Germany and Australia.

Divya Panickar, the STB's area director for northern and western Europe, said: 'We are really excited to launch this campaign in the UK market and to be able to continue to work closely with our tour operator and airline partners.

'The UK market held up well under difficult circumstances in 2008 and this campaign will help us maintain our visitor arrival levels in what appears to be a challenging year for the industry.'

Joey Seow, Singapore Airlines' general manager in the UK and Ireland, said the carrier was 'happy to contribute' to the campaign by offering 'compelling fares as an added incentive to travel to Singapore'.

The airline offers regular flights to Singapore from London Heathrow on the Airbus A380 and also flies from Manchester, Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt.
