Qantas extends A380 flights

16 Feb 2009

Qantas has announced that it will increase its number of Airbus A380 services from Australia to both the UK and the US in June this year.

From 7 June, the Australian airline will increase its number of A380 flights from Sydney to London to five per week, adding two extra services on Thursdays and Sundays.

The launch on 9 June of a fourth weekly service from Sydney to Los Angeles will bring Qantas' weekly A380 connections from Australia to the US to six, with the other two flights to Los Angeles departing from Melbourne.

Qantas is set to take delivery of its fourth A380 in May, a development that will make the extra services possible.

Commenting on the introduction of the superjumbo, Qantas executive general manager John Borghetti said: 'The response from our customers has reaffirmed what we set out to achieve with the aircraft – to create a designer aircraft which exceeded our customers' expectations when it comes to comfort and functionality.'

On 14 January this year, the Australian carrier became the first airline to fly the A380 on a commercial flight to San Francisco.
