New York to celebrate Frank Lloyd Wright

18 Feb 2009

An exhibition dedicated to the great American architect Frank Lloyd Wright will open later this year at the Solomon R Guggenheim Museum in New York, which Wright himself designed.

The showcase, which will run from 15 May to 23 August, is being launched to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the completion of the museum.

Entitled From Within Outward, the exhibition will focus on the way that Wright thought about space and the impact that this had on modern architecture and urban life in general.

More than 80 of the great architect's works will be on display, including privately commissioned homes, government buildings, performance spaces and urban locations.

Visitors will be given a fascinating insight into Wright's working process through more than 200 original drawings, architectural models, books, correspondence and more.

Wright is not the only visionary to whom tribute will be paid at the Guggenheim this year, as on 18 September the museum will open an exhibition dedicated to the Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky.
