Singapore Airlines carries millionth A380 passenger

18 Feb 2009

Singapore Airlines this week carried its one millionth passenger on a service operated by the Airbus A380, 16 months after it first launched the superjumbo from Singapore to Sydney.

Royston Pollard was the lucky one millionth passenger and he heard the news before boarding a flight from London Heathrow to Singapore on 17 February.

Mr Pollard and his wife were treated to an upgrade to business class and other prizes including chauffeur-driven limousine transfers, five-star hotel accommodation and a meal at a top restaurant.

Upon hearing the news, Mr Pollard said: 'I'm delighted to be Singapore Airlines' millionth A380 passenger. It's my first time travelling to Singapore and I am really looking forward to staying at the legendary Raffles Hotel as part of my prize.

'I am especially excited about the upgrade onboard, which will definitely make this trip one of the most memorable yet.'

Joey Seow, general manager of Singapore Airlines in the UK and Ireland, said that carrying 1m passengers on the A380 was 'a real achievement' and 'a testament to the airline's popularity and success'.

Singapore Airlines, which was the first carrier to deploy the A380 on a commercial service, is now one of three airlines that boast the superjumbo as part of their fleet, along with Emirates and Qantas.
