Virgin Atlantic boss takes 8-day round-the-world trip

23 Feb 2009

Sir Richard Branson, president of Virgin Atlantic, has set off on an eight-day journey around the world to mark the launch of V Australia, the latest airline to be introduced under the Virgin brand.

The trip will see the famous entrepreneur fly from London to Hong Kong and then on to Sydney before travelling to Los Angeles and eventually returning to the English capital.

Along the way, he will meet local business representatives to speak about how they are dealing with the worldwide economic downturn.

V Australia will launch on 27 February and will initially fly between Sydney and Los Angeles, with extra services to the American city planned from Brisbane and Melbourne in the future.

Sir Richard said: 'Travelling around the world in eight days is going to be a pretty tough quest but we'll certainly be doing it faster than Phileas Fogg did in his balloon!

'The launch of V Australia joins up Sydney and LA, destinations currently served by Virgin Atlantic from London and it means consumers can travel on Virgin globally for the first time. It's a unique moment in Virgin's history.'

From its main base at London Heathrow, Virgin Atlantic offers flights to destinations including Cape Town, Dubai, Miami and Mauritius.
