Holidaymakers 'still spending this year'

New research suggests that holidaymakers are likely to spend just as much, if not more, on their getaways this year despite the credit crunch.
In a survey by YouGov commissioned by cruise operator Carnival UK, 78% of people between the ages of 45 and 54 said they are planning to spend as much on holidays this year.
When asked what they would give up in order to fund their break, the survey respondents indicated that only buying good food and saving are more important than their annual holiday.
David Dingle, chief executive officer of Carnival UK, said: 'The findings from YouGov have confirmed for us that there are still plenty of holidaymakers out there planning a holiday for 2009 despite the current economic situation.
'Considering a cruise holiday today includes accommodation, almost all food, entertainment and flights, it really does provide exceptional value at a time when the credit crunch is hitting our wallets in every aspect of our daily life.'
P&O Cruises announced at the beginning of December that it was 'bucking the trend' occurring in other parts of the economy and enjoying an influx of bookings.
