Barcelona amusement park reopens

2 Mar 2009

Holidaymakers planning trips to Barcelona in the near future will be happy to hear that they can visit the Tibidabo amusement park, which reopened for its 2009 season on 28 February.

The coming year will see the park offer a range of entertainment and events for visitors, including a new series of educational activities for children.

From April, the park's appeal to older visitors will be boosted by the launch of the Tibidabo Plus scheme, a programme of activities including painting and relaxing walks in scenic surroundings.

The star attraction this season, however, will be the park's new rollercoaster, which races along a 718-metre-long track at speeds of up to 80km per hour and climbs to heights of 522 metres above Barcelona.

Tibidabo is named after the mountain upon which it is situated, a location that holidaymakers can reach by riding the popular funicular railway or catching a regular bus service from the city centre.

Visitors looking for bigger rides and more extreme thrills can head to the PortAventura theme park in Tarragona, which is a popular location for day-trips from Barcelona.
